OTA Replatform — Laravel + Nuxt.js with Dual-Run on Magento

OTA Replatform — Laravel + Nuxt.js with Dual-Run on Magento

Written by:Team Anglara
Published:August 18, 2025

New portal on Laravel/Nuxt.js while we maintained the legacy Magento store—zero downtime migration.

Project Overview

A travel OTA wanted to move beyond Magento’s limitations without risking day-to-day sales. We engineered a custom e-commerce portal using a Laravel backend and a Nuxt.js (Vue) frontend, designed for speed, UX clarity, and long-term maintainability. While the new build progressed, our team simultaneously maintained and stabilized the legacy Magento site—patching issues, handling releases, and keeping checkout healthy. The result is a smooth, low-risk replatform: the new portal delivers a modern experience, and the transition from Magento happened without disruption to buyers or ops.

The Challenge & Solutions

Challenges

Legacy Constraints in Magento

Dated UX patterns and performance ceilings slowed browsing and hurt conversion.

challenge-cards-icon

Zero Downtime Requirement

New build couldn’t interrupt sales; Magento had to keep running reliably.

Data Parity & Migration Risk

Catalog, pricing, content, and orders needed consistent treatment across two systems.

challenge-cards-icon

Checkout Friction

Complex flows and heavy pages increased abandonment, especially on mobile.

Solutions

Custom Build: Laravel + Nuxt.js

New portal engineered for speed and flexible UX; API-driven, modular, and easy to extend.

Dual-Run Maintenance SLA

We kept Magento stable—patches, hotfixes, releases—so trading continued during the build.

Data Parity Plan & Cutover

Clear data contracts, sync processes, and staged migration; mapped redirects and SEO continuity.

UX & Performance Redesign

Lean pages, focused flows, optimized media; mobile experience prioritized to reduce checkout drop-offs

Process

1. Define

Business goals and dual-run constraints agreed upfront.

2. Research

Audit Magento flows, data, SEO, and perf bottlenecks.

3. Analysis

Design data contracts and migration/sync paths.

4. Design

UX/IA and mobile-first UI for browse→checkout.

5. Prototype

Validate flows and components with stakeholders.

6. Build

Laravel APIs + Nuxt.js frontend; incremental releases.

7. Test

UAT on real devices; parity checks vs. Magento.

8. Launch & Iterate

Staged cutover, redirects, monitoring, optimizations.

Product Specs / Tech Stack

  • New Portal: Laravel (backend/API), Nuxt.js (Vue) frontend
  • Legacy: Magento (maintained during build; patches, releases, fixes)
  • Key flows: browse → filter → package details → checkout
  • Infra: Staging → production rollout; monitoring & rollback readiness
  • Security/Compliance: RBAC, TLS, backups; SEO continuity via redirects/sitemaps

Key Innovations

Dual-Run Strategy

Building new while maintaining old reduced risk. Users kept buying on Magento as we developed, then transitioned to the Laravel/Nuxt.js portal with minimal disruption.

API-First Architecture

A clean Laravel API and Nuxt.js app separate concerns, enabling faster iteration, better testing, and smoother future integrations.

Mobile-First Performance

Critical rendering path trimmed, media optimized, and interactions streamlined so key pages feel fast on real devices.
